Tragedy ... the tree where the
couple hanged themselves
|
Two
British lovers hanged themselves from the same tree in a Romeo and Juliet-style
tragedy, an inquest heard.
Victoria
Kish-Donovan,
24, killed herself just a fortnight after Raymond
Oswell, 31. Builder Raymond could
not live with his broken heart after Victoria ended their seven-year romance.
But then she was so devastated by
his death last June that she carried out a copycat suicide.
Guilt-ridden Victoria “never stopped
crying” and would lie on her bed surrounded by his photos, the inquest
in Manchester heard.

Hanged
... Victoria Kish-Donovan

The mum of three mourned at the
tree, creating a shrine to her ex-boyfriend with more pictures of him and
flowers. Eventually she left a note which said, “Together forever. I love you Ray” — before ending her life
at the tragic spot.
Victoria was found
hanging in Hatchetts Wood, Wythenshawe, by a group of boys. She was barely
alive and couldn’t be saved after being cut down.
Coroner
Nigel Meadows said yesterday [Feb. 27]:
“This is
almost a repetition of a very famous play by Shakespeare called Romeo and
Juliet — it could be the modern equivalent.”
The couple, of Wythenshawe, met in
2005 when Victoria was 17 and Raymond 24. They had two children, a
son of six and a daughter, five, and Victoria’s son, eight, from a previous
relationship.

Heartbroken
... tragic Raymond Oswell

They split in March last year when Victoria told distraught Raymond it was over. He suspected she
was seeing someone else. Both their families wept as Mr Meadows added: “This is
a very sad set of circumstances. They may well have had their ups and downs but
they must have had a very committed relationship”.
