2012 HAJJ: Saudi Ignores Nigeria Govt Ultimatum, Deports Another 510 Nigerians, Blocks Nigerian Envoy From Detained Pilgrims

Saudi authorities yesterday [Sept 27] denied Nigeria’s Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Alhaji Abubakar Shehu Bunu and other consular officials, access to the detained Nigerian female pilgrims at the King Abdulazeez International Airport, Jeddah, a source at the Nigerian Embassy in Riyadh told Daily Trust last night.

The source who spoke to Daily Trust’s correspondent on phone said that the envoy, in company of six other staffs of the embassy including his Consul General Ambassador Ahmad Umar Yakasai, was at the airport for more than 50 minutes pleading with the Saudi authorities to allow him meet with the pilgrims to no avail.

35-year old Police Corporal, Okechukwu Nwabueze, has sentenced to death by an Ikeja High Court for killing a three-year old girl, Kaosara Muritala three years ago in Lagos.

Okechukwu was alleged to have shot and killed the girl on 5 April, 2009 at a police check point located at Obanle-Aro near Mr. Biggs in Alapere, Ketu.

Three witnesses including the deceased father, a police officer and Professor John Obafunwa, a pathologist testified against the accused person.

The Kano State Pilgrim Welfare Board says it has suspended further airlifting of intending pilgrims to Saudi Arabia following the deportation of 171 female pilgrims to the country for failing to travel with approved male guardians for the ongoing hajj exercise.

The deportees arrived Malam Aminu Kano International Airport, yesterday [Sept. 26], onboard a Max Air plane which touched down at about 4:55pm. About 111 of the intending pilgrims were from Katsina while the 60 others were from Taraba state.

Three more persons yesterday [Sept. 26] appeared before a Yaba Magistrate’s Court for the alleged murder of Cynthia Osokogu, bringing to seven the total number of those so far charged with her murder.

They are Gideon Okechukwu (39), Nonso Ifechukwu (22) and Emeka Chinonso (27). Before them, the quartet of Okwuno Echezoma Nwafo (33), Ejike Ifechukwu Olisaeloka (23) and Maduakor Chukwunonso (25) were charged. Okechukwu was alleged to have conspired with Nwafo and Olisaeloka to kill Cynthia; Ifechukwu and Chinonso were said to have received her stolen phone from Olisaeloka.

There was drama in court Wednesday [Sept 26] when Mrs. Rafkatu Adamu of Kafana Area in Kafanchan, Kaduna State wept as her son, Joefrey Adamu, 26, pleaded guilty to theft.

The accused was docked for alleged theft of iron rods belonging to the Nigeria Railway Corporation in Kafanchan, Kaduna State.

Adamu who pleaded guilty to the charge told the court that he committed the offence because he needed money to feed himself.

He begged the court for leniency, adding, “I have never stolen in my life”.

At about 5 feet up, Colby claims one of the vines he grappled gave way, causing him to slip, News 24 reported. As he positioned himself to embrace the fall, Colby’s face went directly into a branch, puncturing skin directly under his left eyebrow and part of his eyeball.

The black 2012 Camaro belongs to Bobbi's boyfriend Nick Gordon -- and according to sources close to Bobbi, Nick was driving Sunday [Sept. 23] night in Alpharetta, GA ... with Bobbi in the passenger seat ... when the accident happened.

The details surrounding the accident are unclear, but we're told the couple had been arguing at the time of the crash -- and Nick's Camaro was the only car involved. No one was injured.

After the accident, the car was missing the front right tire, the front bumper was torn off, and the airbags were deployed -- but somehow it got back to Bobbi and Nick's apartment.

Cops went to the apartment soon after the accident for a noise complaint, but no one answered the door.

According to the incident report, officers saw the car parked outside the apartment with its hazard lights on -- and it appeared it had been driven in a damaged state.

We're told the accident is currently under investigation. Calls to Bobbi's people were not returned.

Embattled airline, Arik Air Tuesday  permanently blacklisted 27 persons from boarding any of its flights at any point in Nigeria.

A document obtained by Blueprint in Lagos yesterday  [Sept. 25] entitled ‘List of passengers blacklisted on all Arik Air Flights’ showed the Managing Director of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Mr. George Uriesi, as the first person on the list.

Although his offence was not stated, it is believed that he made the list because of the recent disruption of the airline’s operations by unions in the aviation industry made up mostly of FAAN personnel.

Four hundred female pilgrims from Nigeria, who arrived in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on Sunday [Sept. 23] for this year’s hajj, have been separated from their male counterparts and detained by Saudi authorities.

Local media report that the Saudis requested each female pilgrim to provide her muharram – the approved male companion accompanying her on her trip, usually a husband, father or brother – those that couldn’t produce any, were detained.

AN eight-month-old pregnant woman, Mrs. Grace Nwangwu, was weekend, killed in Ikwo LGA of Ebonyi State while she was reportedly trying to steal some food crops in a farm near her house at midnight.

The woman was alleged to be sleeping on the same bed with her husband, Mgbebu till midnight when she left to ease herself outside but reportedly went to farm at Igbudu Community to harvest some food crops and was killed by her attacker.

Narrating how his pregnant wife was murdered, the deceased’s husband, Mr. Nwangwu said:

The father of three said the fake money was among those that were yet to reach the final stage of printing by the NSPMC. The suspect, a material security officer, said he had been perpetrating the criminal act since 2010 until he was recently arrested by the police in Ikorodu.
