A 22 year old internet fraudster, Bike John Niye has been sentenced to one and half years imprisonment by a Lagos State High Court sitting in Ikeja, for defrauding one Laura Wallmam of Indiana, United States of America the sum of $53,500.

The father of a Labour frontbencher who is tipped as a future party leader died in a mysterious car crash that friends fear was a political assassination.

Bennett Umunna, whose son Chuka is Labour’s business spokesman and MP for Streatham, was killed in Nigeria shortly after standing for state governor.

Although Mr Umunna – a wealthy London businessman who was a director of Crystal Palace football club – was tipped to win the post, his supporters claim he lost the vote after refusing to pay bribes during the campaign.

Yesterday [July 30] was NIGERIA DAY at the Africa Olympic Village, Hyde Park, it was an event designed to showcase Nigeria and the achievements of its people. The village was put together by Association of National Olympic Committee of Africa (ANOCA).

Beautiful organization and co-ordination…kudos to Mr. Goke Dokun, CEO of IMPC Limited and the brain behind Nigeria official Stand (WAZOBIA LOUNGE) at the Africa Games Village.

During my chat with Goke Dokun, he said:

“We approached the Federal Ministry of Sports for sponsorship but up till now we haven’t heard from them. But thank goodness for organizations like First Bank Plc for their support and Western MoneyGram, UK”…I paid through my nose to buy this stand, but if I do not profit at the end of the day, I would be glad that Nigeria image would at least been put in right perspective during the games”.

Beautiful wall paintings on display at the stand were given FREELY by UK resident Nigerian great artist, Chinwe Chukwuogo-Roy [MBE] to support Goke Dokun…Chinwe is an artist of international repute, she received worldwide recognition for painting the official Golden Jubilee portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II…She said:

“When I heard about the Nigeria Stand and story of non-governmental participation/sponsorship, I felt obliged to support Goke by giving these paintings freely for display”.  Chinwe asked, “What about the Nigeria Art Gallery?” Aren’t they (Federal Ministry of Culture & Tourism) supposed to be here?

According to them, “we only sell Olympic tickets with Return Flight tickets and/or hotel accommodation”.
