A Commonwealth Games weightlifter from Papua New Guinea has been committed to stand trial over an alleged sexual assault on another man.
Toua Udia, 22, is alleged to have touched the man in a Tesco toilets less than a kilometre from the athletes village. He was arrested and charged on Tuesday [July 29] and has pleaded not guilty, claiming it was “a misunderstanding”.

A Nigerian table tennis player has found a whole new way to salute a bronze medal with one of the more risqué celebrations you’re ever likely to see.
A member of Nigerian Table tennis squad got a little over-excited after, Ojo Onaolapo, another member of the tennis squad won the bronze medal match against India’s Sharath Kamal Achanta. The tennis squad member (name unknown), decided the only suitable reaction would be to display his pants to the world as he celebrated Nigeria’s Bronze medal.

The Nigerian gold medallist Chika Amalaha has been provisionally suspended from the Commonwealth Games after an in-competition drugs test resulted in an anti-doping violation, the Commonwealth Games Federation has announced.

Former FCT Minister, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, has lost one of his sons, Hamza Elrufai, in a motor accident in Abuja this morning [July 29]. El-Rufai confirmed this sad news on his facebook page moments ago, he wrote:
From Allah we came and to Him we shall return. Please join our family in praying for the repose of the soul of my son Hamza El-Rufai who died this morning in a motor accident in Abuja.- Nasir El-Rufai

Hamza studied at University of Virginia and the United World College of the Atlantic according to his information on his Facebook page.
The late Hamza will be buried today in line with Islamic injunctions.
This is the second time in three years that the Nasir El-Rufai's family is losing someone so young. It would be recalled El-Rufai lost his eldest daughter, Yasmine, on 27 November 2011. Reports said she fell to a neurological attack while leaving her bathroom.

Tragedy struck yesterday [July 28] in Benin City. It was an avoidable mishap. A young man, simply identified as Frederick, 20, was stabbed and bled to death in the ancient city.
An eyewitness told THISDAY that trouble began when Frederick went to his debtor-friend, Oruma, to ask for the payment of his N2,000 which the latter had borrowed from him some time ago. But either Oruma did not want to pay or he did not have the money to pay. Either way, altercation ensued, especially as Frederick insisted on leaving with a prized possession of Oruma as a lien.
