A 23-year-old nurse allegedly made a fatal mistake when she injected coffee and milk into the veins of an 80-year-old patient at a clinic in Rio de Janeiro.

The elderly lady died after the student nurse made the grave error, Medical Daily reported. The nurse later defended her mistake in a television interview, and said "anyone can get confused”.

Firefighters believed the collapsed building in the north of Philadelphia was empty until they heard the man crawling out of the wreckage

Rescuers in Philadelphia pulled a man from the wreckage of a collapsed building on Monday [Oct. 29] - and then promptly arrested him for looting. 

The abandoned three-storey building in the north of the city had been reduced to rubble after Superstorm Sandy battered the east coast of the United States. 

Firefighters working to make the building safe didn't think anyone was inside, until they heard someone crawling out of the rubble. 

After helping him to safety, police officers arrested him for disorderly conduct on the suspicion that he had crawled in to the building, located on Cumberland Street, looking for things to loot. 

It came as thousands of National Guard troops were mobilised to prevent looting sprees on homes and shops in New York and Long Island.  Scores of trouble makers took to Twitter threatening to ransack stores and burgle abandoned homes as Sandy passed.

It prompted the New York National Guard to deploy 1,175 troops in New York City, Long Island and the Hudson Valley to maintain law and order.

Sandy hit the mainland at 6.30pm local time on Monday, having battered the eastern coast all day with 13ft waves, causing widespread flooding, damage to buildings and power cuts.

The three aides of Governor Danbaba Suntai of Taraba State involved in last Thursday’s air crash in company of the governor have been transferred to Germany for treatment, the state Commissioner for Information, Mr. Emmanuel Bello, said yesterday [Oct. 29].

The three aides involved in the air crash are Dasat Iliya, the Aide de Camp, ADC; Timo Dangana, Chief Security Officer, CSO, to the governor; and Joel Dan, Chief Detail. They had earlier been transferred to the National Hospital, weekend.

Close circuit television captured disturbing footage from a Chinese preschool in Guangzhou in which a female teacher appears to beat a 4-year-old girl, according to a translation by The Huffington Post.

The surveillance footage shows the teacher tossing the child to the ground. She then appears to kick her, pick her up and drop her to the floor again. The child, who was knocked unconscious, was taken to a hospital with severe injuries.

3rd Mainland Bridge Reopens Today [Tuesday, Oct. 30]…IT’S OFFICIAL

The Federal Government will today (Tuesday, Oct. 30) reopen the Third Mainland Bridge, Lagos, one week ahead of the scheduled delivery date of November 6, 2012.

The government had partially closed the bridge on July 7 to enable the contractor, Messrs Boroni Prono and Company Limited, replace eight expansion joints on the bridge for a contract sum of N1bn.

LONDON, (AFP) – A Nigerian sex trafficker who used witchcraft rituals to silence the teenage girls he smuggled into Britain for prostitution was jailed for 20 years on Monday [Oct. 29].

Osezua Osolase, 42, tricked three impoverished Nigerian orphans into travelling to Britain before attempting to sell them to gangs in Europe for prostitution.

The recycling plant worker, who lived in Kent, southeast England, used West African juju rituals to instill terror in the three girls, aged 14, 16 and 17.

Two Feared Dead In Port Harcourt Failed Jailbreak

Two inmates of the Federal Prisons, Ahoada, Rivers State, were on Saturday [Oct. 28] feared dead while a prison staff was hurt during a foiled jailbreak.

A source at the Rivers State Prisons command told Nigerian Tribune that the attempted jail break was contained, but was unaware of the death of the inmates.

“I know that a member of staff was injured in the process but I don’t know about the death of any inmate. Actually, the inmates are those from the Bayelsa State command who are being kept in Ahoada prison. They were embarking on a riot”, the source said.

Man Goes Berserk In Kaduna…Stabs Two To Death, Injures Several Others

14-Year-Old Boy Gets 25-50 Years In Prison After Shooting His Mother In Her Sleep

A teenage boy has been sentenced to serve 25 to 50 years in prison for killing his 36-year-old mother in their Detroit home.

Joshua Smith was sentenced Friday [Oct. 26] in Wayne County Circuit Court.

The 14-year-old shot and killed Tamiko Robinson as she slept on Feb. 27. Police say the shooting followed an argument.

Smith was charged as an adult and pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in September 2012.

In a statement to police, Smith said he was tired of being called names. His stepfather’s shotgun was used to kill Robinson.

The mother of a member of the House of Representatives, Abiodun Abudu Balogun, representing Ijebu East and Ogun waterside federal constituency, who was kidnapped about a week ago has been released by her abductors.

The lawmaker said his mother, Abedatu Abudu Balogun was released on Friday [Oct. 26] and that she is in good condition of health.
