Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is understood to be 'mortified' after accidentally liking a tweet that suggested Arsene Wenger should step down as manager.

Less than an hour after the full-time whistle, Alex-Oxlade Chamberlain liked a Twitter post from popular Arsenal YouTube channel, Arsenal Fan TV, with a video entitled "Wenger Needs to Go!"

The cult internet channel has developed a cult following in recent seasons amassing 125,000 followers on Twitter and 325,000 subscribers on Youtube.

Oxlade-Chamberlain quickly removed his like of the tweet, but not before it had been spotted to an eagle-eyed Arsenal fan. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain moved to clarify the situation on Saturday evening, tweeting that he was unaware he had accidentally liked the post.

The game result leaves Arsene Wenger's side 12 points adrift of league leaders Chelsea and effectively puts pay to their title challenge. The Frenchman’s position is again under intense scrutiny after Chelsea condemned his side to back-to-back defeats in the Premier League and killed off their already remote title hopes following a comprehensive 3-1 win at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.

The 23-year-old later took to Twitter to clarify he had accidentally liked the tweet and hadn’t even been aware of his actions.
Chamberlain and Arsenal will be looking to recover from this latest setback when they face Hull at the Emirates Stadium next weekend.
