Arsene Wenger has claimed that he tried and failed to bring current Chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kante to Arsenal on two occasions. Kante moved to Stamford Bridge from Leicester for a fee of around £30million in the summer and has earned rave reviews for his performances under Antonio Conte this season.
The France international has made 22 appearances in the league, ahead of Chelsea’s clash with Arsenal this weekend, but it all could have been so different. When asked if he ever tried to sign Kante, Wenger revealed: ‘When he was in France, and when he was at Leicester.

‘I cannot explain everything but it is quite obvious when you look where he has gone. ‘I do not want to talk about it, transfers are transfers. You cannot explain absolutely everything.
‘I believe Kante has had a huge impact. It’s no coincidence Chelsea are where they are and Leicester did what they did last season.’
