A man has been jailed for five years after he attacked a dog owner with a claw hammer and knife – because his pet pooed on his shoe. Reece Moore, 25, reportedly held a grudge against Thomas Roderick after the incident, which took place on November 24.
Michael Greenhalgh, prosecuting, said two days later Roderick was standing at a bus stop when he heard Moore shout: ‘Yo Tom’.
But the dog owner did not realise the man was armed with two weapons until they were face to face. During the attack, Roderick was struck with a hammer to the left of his eye and stabbed in ribs with a knife, Leeds Crown Court heard.
The victim was treated in hospital for a puncture wound to his side, a fractured eye socket and a cut over his eye which needed stitches. Georgina Goring, defending, said the incident stemmed from what had happened two days earlier when the dog ‘defecated’ on his trainers.
Ms Goring said: ‘When the defendant saw the complainant on the day in question he realises now he acted in a way incredibly wrong and unacceptable.’ Moore, of Juniper Grove, Netherton, admitted wounding with intent and two charges of possessing offensive weapons.
He was jailed for five years and four months.
