And one candidate in particular has captured the public's imagination, Michelle Obama. The hashtag #michelle2020 has been trending on Twitter, already generating thousands of tweets.
And it seems the anti-Trump camp are placing their faith in the popular First Lady as the Democrat candidate in four years time. Mrs Obama proved to be an inspirational First Lady to some during her husband's eight years as President, and has been held up as a role model for women.
And while some are using the hastag in jest, many others are deadly serious about the idea. She has also been campaigning for Hillary Clinton, making a particularly memorable speech at the 2016 Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia.
Really hoping Michelle Obama wakes up today and thinks 'Oh hell no, I've got to try and fix this next time around'. #Michelle2020— Alex (@marshallexi) November 9, 2016
