Rashford vs Iheanacho: How The Manchester United Star Is Being Beaten By His City Rival

Marcus Rashford is in line to face Kelechi Iheanacho in the EFL Cup on Wednesday evening – but the Manchester United forward is struggling to match his Manchester City rival this season.

Jose Mourinho was hesitant in giving Rashford a startling role at the beginning of the season but the 18-year-old took his chance by scoring a late winner against Hull City, while his hat-trick on his debut for England Under-21s only strengthened his case.

Iheanacho, meanwhile, has found chances under Pep Guardiola limited but the 20-year-old has shone during his brief spells on the pitch.

But who has enjoyed the better season so far?

As the stats, which are provided by Opta, prove, Iheanacho has been the better performer during his limited time on the pitch for City than Rashford’s current run for United.

Although the two players share the same number of goals scored and, bizarrely, the same pass completion percentage, Iheanacho beats Rashford for assists, shot accuracy, chances creates and successful dribbles.

In Rashford’s defence, he has played almost as a makeshift left-back, rather than a striker, in United’s last two Premier League games against Liverpool and Chelsea as Mourinho looked to solidify his line-up.
