Four passengers were burnt to death when their bus caught fire on Sunday afternoon few metres from Abaji town on the Abuja Expressway. A witness said that the incident occurred at about 2:12pm when an unmarked Peugeot J5 bus, loaded with electronic equipment, ran into a moving truck.
He said that the bus driver, who was coming from Lokoja overtook another vehicle, rammed into the truck and the bus immediately went up in flames. “The four occupants of the bus, including the driver, were burnt to ashes,” he said.
The eyewitness said that the burnt corpses were later removed after men of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) used a towing truck to pull out the bus that got trapped under the back of the trailer.
PersecondNews gathered that the burnt corpses were buried according Islamic rites by Muslim residents of the area, after the deceased persons relatives came to claim the corpses. The Abaji unit commander of FRSC, Mr Maduekwe Lawrence Akah, said that the burnt corpses had been handed over to relatives and buried in the area.
