David Beckham is set to return to Real Madrid in an ambassadorial role, according to reports in Spain. Marca claims that the 41-year-old, who spent four years at the Santiago Bernabeu as a player, is wanted by his former club to build on their reputation in America.

Beckham will become the latest Galactico to return to Madrid after Brazil’s legendary duo Ronaldo and Roberto Carlos were brought in as ambassadors earlier this year.

The former midfielder joined Madrid from Manchester United in a £24.5 million deal in June 2003. Beckham helped guide Madrid to the Spanish league title in his final season before leaving to join LA Galaxy in the summer of 2007.

Beckham’s former Madrid team-mate Zinedine Zidane is currently the head coach at Madrid.
