A pregnant woman lost her baby after she was kicked in the stomach in a racist attack. The woman, 34, who witnesses said was Middle Eastern in appearance was wearing a headscarf, was shopping at a branch of the Co-op in Bletchley, Buckinghamshire, when a man approached and made racist comments, police say.
The man followed the woman to her car and hit another man over the head with a bag of ice and then a bottle. He then kicked the woman in the stomach. The woman lost her baby as a result of the attack. A witness described a large crowd of people surrounding the victim, who was lying in the car park near to the Hazrath Shahjalal Jamie Masjid mosque.
Police are now appealing for information about the incident and have released CCTV footage of a man with whom they would like to speak.
‘This racially aggravated assault had absolutely devastating consequences for the victim, who lost her baby as a result of the attack,’ said Pc Richard Armitage. ‘Our thoughts are with her and her family at this incredibly difficult and sad time. ‘A thorough investigation is under way and we would like to speak to the man pictured as he may have information which could help with the investigation.’
The incident took place at around 9.40pm on August 6.
