Boko Haram Member Arrested At Crowded Filling Station In Bornu State Attempting To Detonate A Bomb

A member of the Islamic sect, Boko Haram, was, on Tuesday [Dec. 1], arrested along Damboa road in Maiduguri, Borno State, by members of the vigilance group, Civilian JTF, while attempting to detonate an improvised Explosive Device (IED) at a crowded filing station.

Many people were waiting to buy fuel following scarcity that hits the country when the man was seen. Garba Hussaini, an attendant at the filling station, who spoke with Tribune Online in Maiduguri, said: " Today, we are very lucky because there are over 500 people and many vehicles waiting to buy fuel when the sect member came with a five-litre gallon pretending to have come to buy fuel."

According to him, when one of the people controlling the crowd tried to prevent him from entering with the gallon, he got angry and brought out a knife to stab the person. "In the process, a member of the Civilian JTF noticed that improvised explosive was tied around his waist and he quickly grabbed him before he could detonate the explosive," he added.

One of those who came to buy fuel, Mallam Sani, speaking on the issue, said: "I did not know what happened. I only saw people running and the Civilian JTF grabbing somebody. They carried him inside KeKe NAPEP. Later, I heard that he was a Boko Haram member with bomb trying to kill people. If this Boko Haram member had succeeded, hundreds of people would have gone with him. Thank God it did not happen."
