Chief Magistrate Mrs Folasade Botoku ordered that Nelson, who is facing a murder charge, be remanded in prison pending the release of legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP). His plea was not taken as the court lacked the jurisdiction to prosecute murder cases. The prosecutor, ASP Olagoke Akinlabi, told the court that the offence was committed on Sept. 18 at Abesan Estate, Ipaja Lagos.
He said Nelson used a broken bottle to stab his 75-year-old father, Sunday Oamen, several times while he was asleep, ripping open his stomach.
“He claimed that his father refused to give him money to purchase a bus and on the said day he went into his father’s room where he was sleeping and stabbed him with a broken bottle,” he said.
If convicted, Nelson will face the death penalty. The case was adjourned pending legal advice from the DPP.
