Civil Defence Official Kills Colleague In Ondo State

A member of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Ondo State has been killed by his colleague while pursuing a suspect. The Nation gathered that the late officer and his colleagues pursued a robbery suspect into a shop and arrested him.

An eyewitness told The Nation one of the NSCDC officers accidentally shot his colleague when some residents protested against their action. The residents called the police immediately after the incident and the NSCDC officers were arrested.

The victim was taken to the State Specialist hospital in Akure, where he was confirmed dead. The Corps spokesman, Kayode Balogun, denied the allegation that his officers acted unprofessionally.

Police spokesman Femi Joseph said his men were deployed in the area when they heard that a riot broke out between the NSCDC officers and residents. Joseph said a suspect has been arrested, adding that he was helping the police with their investigation.
