This is the moment that BMW chief executive Harald Krueger collapsed as he presented the company’s electric super car at the Frankfurt Auto show. The BMW boss was only five minutes into his presentation of the company’s electric i8 super car when he staggered backwards and fainted – with two aides quickly rushing to help him.

He was said to be dazed and rubbed the back of his head as he was led off stage to receive medical attention.

A company spokesman who was in attendance at the time said: ‘I’m a bit lost for words. BMW will try to redo the press conference at a later stage.’

BMW spokesman Maximillian Schoberl added that Krueger had been feeling unwell before he went on stage, and that he was now ‘recovering well’ after suffering a ‘moment of dizziness.’

The i8 car that Krueger was due to unveil is powered by an electric motor and has a 1.5 litre three-cylinder petrol engine. Unlike most cars, the i8 recharges its lithium ion batteries by using the engine – with the battery power in turn driving the electric motor.
