The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) yesterday [Sept. 17] intercepted cocaine worth N57million, with a combined weight of 11.461kg at the Murtala Mohammed Int’l Airport, Ikeja, Lagos. Five suspects were also arrested for importing the illicit drug.
NDLEA Head of Public Affairs, Mitchel Ofoyeju confirmed the development in a statement. He said the seized drug comprises 7.576kg of white cocaine and 3.885kg of crack cocaine, being smuggled into the country from Brazil.
He explained that the NDLEA Commandant at the airport, Hamza Umar disclosed that one of the suspects Omoluonye Izuchukwu Simon, 28, was caught with both white and crack cocaine in tins weighing 7.785kg, Akubueze Kyrian Nonso, 28, had 1.110kg of the drug by the side of his luggage while Obidike Onodyer, 40, ingested 11 wraps weighing 0.485 grammes.
Others suspects arrested are Onyeabor Maduabuchukwu Friday, 35, found with 74 wraps weighing 1.256kg and Ifoh Emma, 37, caught with 34 wraps weighing 0.710 grammes, he stated.
Chairman/Chief Executive of NDLEA, Ahmadu Giade who called on members of the public to shun drug trafficking and engage in legitimate business ventures, said that the suspects would be charged to court soon.
