|Murdered: The three bodies were discovered at a home in Kansas City on Tuesday evening|
A mayor has spoken angrily after an unknown killer shot an infant in a triple homicide in Kansas City, hitting out at the 'ridiculous rate' of gun deaths due to laws people 'don't have the guts to change'. The baby's body was discovered alongside those of a young woman and young man on Tuesday [Sept 8] evening by another family member at about 9pm.
Captain Tye Grant said the killings were 'a completely senseless act', but it was mayor Sly James who spoke with the most passion.
|Anger: Mayor Sly James has hit out at the senseless killings, saying it was just more 'idiots with guns'|
Talking outside the crime scene, James blamed 'idiots with guns' as he said it was 'the same old stuff'. 'We all know what's going on. We just don't have the guts to change it,' the Kansas City Star reported him as saying. 'Everyone wants to protect their rights, but while we're doing that, we're forgetting that people are getting killed at a ridiculous rate.'
The child is the seventh under-16 to be killed senselessly in the city since the beginning of the year, three of whom were shot, according to the Star. According to the FBI, Kansas City is the 14th most dangerous city in America, with 1,268 violent crimes per 100,000 people in 2013. A total of 64 people were shot dead in the city last year, while five under-16s were killed, according to police department statistics.
