As part of efforts to bring to a halt the incessant armed robbery operations occurring at Mile 2 and Ijora areas of Lagos, especially during traffic snarls, the police, weekend, arrested 12 members of the syndicate.
The12 suspects who were arrested by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), were said to be part of the syndicate who specialises in robbing motorists in traffic.
The operatives had swung into action following a tip-off from some victims, who had been robbed by the syndicate on the bridges.
THISDAY gathered that the operatives had swooped in and arrested the suspects, recovering wraps of Indian hemp.
The police said the suspects were in the habit of robbing, snatching handsets and dispossessing law abiding citizens of their valuables during traffic snarls along Mile 2 and Ijora.
They also accused the suspects of attacking their victims by breaking the vehicles' windscreens in traffic and making away with their valuables.
Confirming the arrests, the RRS Commander, Olatunji Disu, an Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), said the squad would not any act of criminality in the state and its environs.
