The son of a Nigerian woman found beaten to death last week [Jul 28] in Longview is now being held in the Gregg County Jail on a charge of murder. Daniel Basor Kadima, 31, was arrested Wednesday [Jul 29] on a charge of walking on the wrong side of the road.

On Friday afternoon, online jail records showed that a charge of murder had been added with a $1 million bond.

Initial autopsy: Longview woman found dead had fractured skull
Hauwa Esther Kadima was 61 years old
Hauwa Esther Kadima, 61, was found by Longview police officers during a check welfare call Tuesday morning in an apartment in the 700 block of Gilmer Road. She had fractures to her skull with laceration of the brain because of blunt impact to the head, according to initial autopsy findings.

Daniel Kadima's ex-wife wrote an affidavit Wednesday for a motion of contempt stating that Kadima violated the terms of their divorce and that police "say he is the person they believe beat his mother to death." She also detailed Kadima's history of mental illness and stated that he was parked in her driveway waiting for her to return home Wednesday.

Jail records show Daniel Kadima had been arrested four previous times in Gregg County, largely on criminal trespass and theft of stolen property charges. The death of Hauwa Esther Kadima marks the eighth Longview homicide of 2015.

Ashley Dendy, 26, of Longview was acquainted with the woman who lived in the apartment but did not know her name. “She was sweet, nice, polite,” Dendy said. “I know she believed in God. She’d always say ‘God bless you’ or ‘Have a blessed day,’ things like that.”

Dendy said she was not surprised when police came to the woman’s apartment. “She had trouble with her son,” Dendy said. “She told us personally he had a mental illness and she was trying to get him home to Nigeria to get help.”
