Ex-international winger, Tijani Babangida, was Thursday [Aug. 13] offered the role of a Special Adviser on Technical Matters to Super Eagles Head Coach, Sunday Oliseh. The former Ajax Amsterdam player lauded the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) for the wisdom behind the designation.
He said it was an honour to work under Oliseh,' considered one of Nigeria's greatest footballers. "I am honoured to serve Oliseh because we had a special relationship during our international playing days. Such is our closeness that we can discuss personal issues. Oliseh is one Nigeria's greatest players. I am happy that the federation considered this rapport and decided I could have a working relationship with Oliseh," Babangida confessed yesterday.
He told reporters that he and Oliseh spoke yesterday [Aug. 13] morning and that further talks are due between them in Abuja on Monday when the latter returns to Nigeria from Europe where he has been holding meetings with the foreign-based players.
It is understood that Oliseh, who is best remembered for his pile driver goal in Nigeria's 3-2 victory over Spain at France '98, will on Tuesday, introduce other members of the back-up crew of the senior national team at the first technical meeting since he took charge of the national team.
Oliseh's coaching credentials will be scrutinised on September 5 when Nigeria meet Tanzania in Dar es Salam in a 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier. He has assured Nigerians that he is already working assiduously towards raising a solid squad to pick up three vital points from East Africa next month.
