CHILD TRAFFICKING: Police Rescue Five Pregnant Girls, Nine Babies In Enugu State

The police have recovered five pregnant girls and nine babies who are under one year, from a maternity home in Enugu.

The recovery was made by policemen from the Central Police Station of the Enugu State Police Command who acted on information from concerned members of the public. Spokesman of Enugu State Police Command, Ebere Amaraizu who confirmed the report, identified the maternity home as Daughters of Divine Home Pro-live located at Aria Road by Cemetery axis in Enugu North Local Government Area.
Amaraizu, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, said that as a result of information from members of the public, men of the Central Police Station swung into action and raided the maternity home. According to him, five pregnant girls and nine babies under one year were recovered, while five of the workers in the maternity home were arrested.
Amaraizu disclosed that the suspects are now helping the operatives of the Anti Child Trafficking Unit of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in their investigation. He however noted that the alleged owner of the Home, a Reverend Sister, maintained that she has an approval from relevant authorities to run the home, although she was yet to tender the approval as at press time on Tuesday [Aug. 25].
Meanwhile, a second year student of an unidentified university is said to be the mother of one the babies recovered from the home. Amaraizu said investigations have commenced in full scale into the activities of the home as well as its legality.
