Suspected bandits on Tuesday [Aug 11] set ablaze a man, his pregnant wife and two-year-old baby in a night raid on Tubiki village in Anka LGA of Zamfara State, Daily Trust has reported.
The bandits according to witness, Mallam Aliyu Kawaye, arrived on motorbikes around 1am and embarked on a house to house search until they identified the victim's residence.
"When they identified his residence they went straight into his bedroom with a gallon of petrol. They then poured the petrol on his wife and their kid who were asleep and set them on fire. And the most pathetic part of it was that when they set them ablaze, they locked them inside the room, blocking all escape routes”, he said.
The witness added: "The victims were heard screaming but nobody was willing to offer help for fear of attacks. Instead residents of the village were looking for escape routes”.
The victim, Daily Trust gathered was a prominent butcher in the village but the motive for the attack is still unknown. When Daily Trust contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Sanusi Amiru, said he was not aware of the incident.
He however added that he would speak to the DPO in the area and get back.
