The Council of Imams in the South West has picked Alhaji Dahud Makanjuola Akinola as the new Aare Musulumi of Yorubaland.
A statement signed on behalf of the council by the Chief Imam of Ibadanland, Alhaji Abdul Ganiyu Abubakry Agbotomokekere, said “the Council, after considering the enormity of tasks and responsibility attached to the office of Aare Musulumi of Yorubaland and after weighing many options unanimously agreed to appoint Alhaji Dahud Makanjuola Akinola”.
Alhaji Akinola, a renowned businessman, a philanthropist and devout Muslim, hails from Ibadan, Oyo State. He is patron to numerous Islamic organisations in Nigeria.
The position of the Aare Musulumi of Yorubaland became vacant following the death of the last holder of the title, Alhaji Abdulazeez Arisekola-Alao in 2014.
