A human rights activist, Mr. Yinka Odumakin, on Wednesday [Jul 22] admonished Nigerians to avoid unnecessary criticism of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration but support him to deliver on its promises. The national publicity secretary of Afenifere, who stated this in an interview with journalists in Osogbo, Osun State capital, stressed that even 100 days was not enough to assess the present administration’s performance.
Odumakin who revealed that President Buhari was trying to settle down to tackle numerous challenges facing the country, said it would be too early for anyone to criticise his administration barely two months he assumed office.
According to him:
I think it’s too early to do meaningful assessment of Buhari’s administration; maybe by 100 days, we shall have a clearer picture. What we have seen so far is that he (Buhari) is still trying to settle down because as we talk now, there is no Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), and no Chief of Staff, no cabinet.
What we can see now is that he is travelling to countries to discover how well to combat the Boko Haram insurgency which has held back the growth of this country. Nigerians should support him to succeed because if he gets it right, we will all enjoy it. We should give him time and avoid unnecessary criticism to allow him settle down and govern well.
Speaking on the call by a serving judge in Osun State for the impeachment of the state Governor, Rauf Aregbesola, over alleged financial recklessness, Odumakin asked the state House of Assembly to speed up the probe on the matter.
