Reports say at least 8 people were killed Friday [Jul 17] morning when multiple explosions rocked Damaturu, the Yobe State capital at Phase 1 Eid Praying ground, along Maiduguri Road. The attack comes barely 24 hours after 49 people died when twin blasts struck a market in the northeast city of Gombe on Thursday.
A resident, Abdul Malik, told PREMIUM TIMES that “It happened at about 8am. Now we are being asked to return back home. Those that had gotten close to the Eid ground said many people were affected”.
Security operatives and men of the anti-bomb squard have condoned off praying grounds to prevent further attacks. Vanguard correspondent observed that praying grounds in the town are now deserted.
