A Bradford City Council employee received over £12,000 in compensation after he was ‘hit by a toilet lid when flushing’. The settlement is just one of the hundreds by local authorities that have cost an estimate £30million over three years.
Other cases include £12,566 to a cleaner who got seriously bruised after getting her feet caught in a Henry hoover vacuum cleaner.
And Ceredigion City Council forked out £16,500, which was awarded to another employee who fell after slipping on a cream cake. Some of the compensation lump sums are taxpayer funded, while others are covered by council’s insurance plans.
