The Ondo State Police Command on Thursday [May 21] arrested three men, who escaped from a prison in Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State, during the November, 2012 jailbreak for alleged involvement in another robbery operation in Akure.
The suspects ─ Banji Adedayo, Tope Daramola and Segun Akinseye ─ according to the Commissioner of Police, Isaac Eke, are among the gang that have been terrorising the people of the state.
The commissioner explained that the trio, along with two other men, allegedly snatched a Toyota Camry and mobile phones from one Komolafe Remidayo on Ondo Road, Akure. He said policemen from the Special Anti-Robbery Squad later arrested the suspects.
Eke added that efforts were on to arrest the fleeing members of the gang and to recover the snatched vehicle. One of the suspects, Adedayo, however denied being a member of the gang, but admitted to have escaped during the jailbreak in Ado Ekiti.
Adedayo, who added that he was jailed for robbery, said, “It is true that I escaped from the prison, but since then I have stopped robbery. “I was smoking hemp with some friends in Akure when policemen arrested all of us.”
