A 28-year-old man, Joshua Uzochukwu Ezirim, was yesterday [May 14] arraigned before an Onitsha Magistrate Court 3, for killing his father with a kitchen knife.
The crime was said to have been committed on May 9 at about 2am at plot 2, Omus Estate, Creek Road, Fegge, Onitsha.
The charge read: “That you Joshua Uzochukwu Ezirim, ‘m’, on the 9th day of May, 2015, at about 0200hrs, at plot 2, Omus Estate, Creek Road, Fegge, Onitsha, in the Onitsha Magistrial District, did stab your father, one Samson Ezirm “m” severally with kitchen knife all over the body which caused his death; and thereby committed an offence punishable under section 27 (a) (b) (c0 of the Criminal code, cap. 36, Vol. II, revised laws of Anambra State of Nigeria 1991”.
After the charges were read, no plea was taken and Mr. Ezirm was remanded in Onitsha prison custody, while the Magistrate, Mrs. Chioma Amalu advised the Director of Public Prosecution to prepare charges for transmission of the case to a high court.
Police investigation showed that Ezirim from Imo state stabbed his father 30 times before he died and his body was deposited in the mortuary of St. Charles Borromeo Hospital Onitsha.
Ezirim was said to have chased his mother and other siblings away and locked the flat before dealing the deadly stabs on his father. It was gathered that he had earlier threatened to kill the entire family.
