According to Daily Independent, earlier today [April 11], an unidentified man has been shot and beheaded in Asari Toru LGA of Rivers State, where reports have indicated heavy shootings and chaos has. Reports from Rivers said the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) office in Asari Toru, had been set ablaze.
According to reports filed by Daily Independent’s correspondent this morning, Saturday, April 11, 2015, the incident may have disrupted the accreditation process, as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) may not be willing to deploy staff there until safety is guaranteed.
Asari Toru LGA is the home of former leader of the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND), Asari Dokuku, and Sports Minister, Tammy Danagogo.
The minister had, a few days ago, lamented the fragile security situation in the area, alerting of the presence of strange and fiery looking faces in area.
Similar reports from Obio/Akpor LGA have also indicated a tense security situation, as the youths were showing signs of agitation. The youths were uncomfortable at the delay in accreditation process.
At Eleme, Daily Independent’s correspondent gathered that INEC were only able to begin deployment of accreditation and voting materials by 9.30 a.m. In Okrika LGA, home town of Dame Patience Jonathan, Card Readers were not working and the masses were trying to impress on the electoral officers to revert to manual process.
Meanwhile, result sheets were reported to have been hijacked by some unknown persons. But so far, there was relative peace in the area.
