For allegedly raping his 18-year-old friend (names withheld) to death, 24-year-old Michael Oyejide was remanded in prison custody by an Abeokuta magistrates’ court, on Thursday. The suspect, according to the police prosecutor, Moshood Hammed, committed the alleged offence in connivance with an accomplice, now at large, on January 8, at Ijeja area of Abeokuta, Ogun State.
The prosecutor said the alleged rape led to the death of the deceased.
Hammed said: “At 8:00 p.m on this fateful day, Oyejide celebrated his birthday at Adigbe and some ladies were invited, later in the night, the accused and one other got the victim, who is also a friend drunk. The accused and his friend took the victim to his house at Ijeja and they raped her to death.”
According to the IPO, the accused person and his accomplice rushed the victim to a nearby hospital on the pretense that they were “good Samaritans”, where it was confirmed that the young lady was dead on arrival.
He explained to the court that the hospital management informed the police about the incident, which led to the arrest of the accused person.
The magistrate, Martins Akinyemi, ordered that the accused person be remanded at Ibara Prisons and adjourned the case to June 5, pending Director of Public Prosecution’s (DPP) advice for further hearing on the matter.
