Last
year, he came out as a 'happy', 'comfortable' and 'proud' gay man in a candid
email. But Anderson Cooper has revealed he was once more of a ladies man.
The
45-year-old CNN reporter and talk show host discussed his experiences 'dating
girls' in his younger days during an episode of his talk show.
'I have had a little bit more
experience in other areas other than with guys', the TV reporter revealed. 'I
don't have much experience, but the few times when I would go on a date with a
girl - like when I was 12 - there was a lot of sharing, and a lot of talking,
and a lot of asking how I am’.
'Some of my best friends now are
girls who allegedly dated me at 13 and 14, and who I didn’t really know we were
dating, but they thought we were dating, and I was sort of, you know, hoping to
meet their brothers’.
Anderson currently shares a New York
townhouse with boyfriend and nightclub owner Ben Maisani also shared his thoughts on the differences in dating
women.
'They're my best friends still, but
I find they share a lot’, he said. 'I have a friend - I send her one text and I
get 20 texts back. Guys don't want a million texts. It's exhausting’.
The
star has been candid with family and friends about his sexuality since high
school, but did not comment publicly on it until last summer, via an email he
sent to a journalist friend at The Daily Beast.
'It’s become clear to me that by
remaining silent on certain aspects of my personal life for so long, I have
given some the mistaken impression that I am trying to hide something -
something that makes me uncomfortable, ashamed or even afraid,' he wrote. 'This is distressing because it is simply
not true’.
'The
fact is, I'm gay, always have been, always will be, and I couldn’t be any more
happy, comfortable with myself, and proud’.
