| Spokesperson for Lagos state police command, Ngozi Braide |
A middle-aged mother of four, Alhaja Sikirat Ekun, has been found
dead inside a well in her residence at No 5 Babatunde Ladega Street, Omole
Phase I, Ojodu, Lagos, three weeks after she was declared missing.
It was gathered that neighbours were
attracted to the well, as a result of a putrid smell that was oozing out of it,
which forced them to alert the police at the Area ‘G’ Command, Ogba.
The late Mrs. Ekun was said to have operated a restaurant in the same
building in her life time and she lived alone in the house, because her four
children reside outside the country.
Sources disclosed to TheNATION that
when the deceased was not seen around, neighbours thought she had travelled out
of the country as the restaurant was still open to customers.
Police operatives were said to have
stormed the residence and arrested two of late Ekun’s workers who are suspected to have conspired with a highly
placed traditional ruler in the state to murder the deceased.
Spokesperson for the state’s police
command, Ngozi Braide, a Deputy
Superintendent of Police (DSP), who refused to confirm the murder, said the
suspects including the traditional ruler are likely to be paraded by the
Commissioner of Police Umar Manko today [Dec. 14].
When The Nation visited the scene of
the incident, the street was deserted as residents were hiding inside their
houses in fear. A resident who pleaded anonymity told TheNATION’s reporter that
over 500 people had been arrested and released on bail since the police began
investigation into the report of the missing woman three weeks ago.
The front gate of the building was
seen locked with a big padlock by operatives from Area ‘G’ Command with some
plain cloth policemen cordoning off the place.
The Area Commander Ishola Abdullahi, referred The Nation
reporters to Braide who he said has
all the information on the matter as he has already briefed her.
