David Beckham and his Los Angeles Galaxy
teammates met President Barack Obama at
the White House in Washington, D.C. on Tuesday [May 15], where the soccer stars
were applauded for their Major League Soccer Cup win.
Beckham, 37, led the Los Angeles team to
victory over Houston Dynamo in November and had to endure a few jokes about his
age during a press conference with Obama.
The
President quipped, “I gave David a hard time; I said that half his teammates could be his
kids! We’re getting old, David. In fact, you’re holding up better than me”.
Obama also took aim at the British
sportsman’s sideline as an underwear model, adding, “It’s a rare man who can be that
tough on the field and also have his own line of underwear”.
During
the visit to the White House, Beckham
and his teammates presented the President with his own Galaxy shirt and then
joined First Lady Michelle Obama at
a soccer clinic with kids on the South Lawn.
