One Dies As NITEL Building Collapsed In Lagos

One person was confirmed dead and another injured when a storey building under construction at NITEL Training School Cappa, Oshodi, Lagos, collapsed on Thursday.

The spokesman of the Lagos State Police Command, Mr. Joseph Jaiyeoba, confirmed the incident in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria.

Jaiyeoba explained that the victims were workers of an Abuja based company, Bukola Concept Nig. Ltd., Abuja, which was carrying out reconstruction works on the building.

The police spokesman, who said the incident happened at about 9a.m., stated that the body of the deceased, Matthew Adesuji, was found under debris while the second person was pulled out alive.

He said that the police were on the trail of the contractor, who allegedly escaped from the scene.

Jaiyeoba said the contractor had escaped arrest and that the Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, Yaba, had taken over the case for investigation.
