Man Jailed For Stealing A Bag Of Melon

A 23-year old man, Bala Usman, was on Wednesday sentenced to four months imprisonment by a Gwagwalada Upper Area Court in FCT for stealing a bag of melon. In the same country where various public and private office holders have been alleged and a few convicted of stolen billions of Naira, yet get so light sentencing, if any at all….

Anyway, Bala Usman was convicted by the Judge, Mr. Babaginda and was given an option of N15,000 fine, as he pleaded guilty to the offence.

The police prosecutor, Inspector Sunday Okedi, had told the court that Usman was given the bag of melon by one Zaka Dada on February 20. He said that Usman was expected to sell the melon and give the proceeds to Dada.

The prosecutor said that Usman failed to return the bag of melon or give the proceeds to Dada. He said that the bag of melon was recovered from the convict when he was arrested.
