fellow protester who travelled all the way from Ibadan to Lagos this morning
told the blogger that Lagos-Ibadan Expressway was shut down by angry youths. The
gentleman told me he parted with close to N25,000 before he could get to Lagos
as there were several road blocks mounted by these angry youths who were also
extorting money from unsuspecting travelers…

Some
Nigerian musicians, comedians and Nollywood actresses and actors have been
providing support at Occupy Nigeria Carnival (Oh! Sorry, Protest) at Gani
Fawehinmi Memorial Park, Ojota, Lagos since the protest started yesterday.
Pasuma
was around today. He addresses the crowd in Yoruba dialect. And he spoke very well.
But
I never knew Pasuma is “Area Baba” even though I have heard he is an “Omo Aiye”
until this afternoon. Pasuma was mobbed by a huge crowd of “agbero boiz” the
moment he was stepping of out the protest venuw.
It
took the intervention of his “area boiz” who came with him to the protest venue
and his braveness before he was let loose. Pasuma almost exchanged blows with
some of the “area boiz” who were manhandling him.
An
“Okada” man appears from nowhere and whisked Pasuma out of the near violent
scene.

Shame Of The Human Safaris: Tourists Pay For Jungle Drive Which Treats Primitive Tribe Like Zoo Animals
One
of the world's most primitive tribes is being humiliated on a daily basis - by
tourists who pay to go on human safaris and treat them like animals in a zoo. Hundreds
of visitors to the remote Andaman Islands, north of the Equator in the Indian
Ocean, queue up each day at dawn to drive through a jungle reserve set aside
for the Jarawa tribe.
They
then toss scraps of food to the half-naked natives, who only started making
contact with the outside world in the late 1990s, and command them to dance.
The 403 tribe members should, in theory, be protected by strict laws on the Indian-run Island. A sign at the gate to the 'enclosure' states: 'Don’t give any eatables to the Jarawas.
'Don’t
indulge in photography, videography. Otherwise you will be liable for legal
action including seizure of camera.' But tourists can pay touts £350 to take
part in the convoy, with local police taking a £200 cut and turning a blind eye
to the exploitation.
Visitors are regularly seen throwing bananas and biscuits to tribe's people waiting at the side of the track. Similar scenes are seen across Britain as people feed animals in a zoo. Photojournalist Gethin Chamberlain uncovered the tour, which is not advertised but sold under the pretext of a visit to local caves, in the islands' capital Port Blair. He joined a tour run by Rajesh Vyas who said the tours were 'very popular' with the British.
Vyas said: 'It will
cost 15,000 rupees (£182) to buy off the police and about the same for a car,
driver, gifts for the Jarawa, biscuits, snacks. It is guaranteed.'
Police
on the islands are told to arrest anyone caught taking pictures of tribe
members. But officers have been seen pocketing a £200 bribe.
He
then ordered a group of topless girls to dance for tourists. A video shows the
youngsters refusing at first but swaying after he said: 'I gave you food.'
The
Jarawa lived detached from the modern world until 1998, when one of them needed
hospital treatment - and told the rest of the tribe about life away from the
reserve. They now regularly visit local towns and settlements.

Polish Military Prosecutor Shot Himself After News Conference On Probe Into Mystery Air Crash That Killed Country's President
A
Polish military prosecutor has shot himself in the head after cutting short a
news conference in his office, officials and media reports say.
Col
Mikolaj Przybyl was defending a military investigation into media leaks related
to the air crash that killed the Polish president in 2010.
He
asked reporters to leave so that he could take "a break". Please give
me a five-minute break, I need to rest', he said.
Upon
hearing a loud thud, the reporters returned to find him on the floor with a
pool of blood around his head.
Mr
Przybyl, who was in his office in Poznan, western Poland, is now in hospital in
stable condition. His life is not in danger, according to hospital officials.

Boko Haram, Yesterday Attacked Christ Apostolic Church In Yola, Adamawa State Killing 11 Worshippers
YOLA – Yesterday, Jan 09, 2012 - Gunmen, suspected to be
members of Boko Haram, yesterday, attacked Christ Apostolic Church in Yola,
Adamawa State capital, killing 11 worshippers. Another member died in hospital
from bullet wounds.
News of the shooting made residents,
mostly non-indigenes, to flee their homes in the night and seek refuge at the
General Jalo Army Barracks, Yola, for fear of being killed.
Meanwhile,
Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, yesterday, campaigned for the re-election of
Governor Murtala Nyako of Adamawa State despite the nationwide strike called by
labour over the recent increase in petrol price. Former President Olusegun
Obasanjo and his former deputy, Atiku Abubakar led the PDP supporters during
the party’s grand finale campaign in Yola, where Nyako was presented to the
people for their support in the forthcoming governorship election in the state.
It was learnt that the unknown
gunmen, who rode on motorcycles, entered the church and opened fire on the
worshippers. 11 members reportedly died on the spot and several others
sustained bullet wounds.
One of the wounded church members
reportedly died later, bringing the number of those who died to 12, even as
five others are in critical conditions at the Specialist Hospital, Yola.
Last Friday, 12 mourners were killed
in Mubi, the commercial nerve centre of the state by suspected members of
Boko Haram sect.
Those killed were allegedly holding
a meeting on how to raise money to convey home the remains of three of their
relatives earlier shot dead by members of the sect on Thursday before they were
attacked.
Police in the state said they were
investigating the incidents.
